Bubenjump – questions and answers

Bubenjump is a free pixel-art ski jumping game that runs in your browser. Here is how it works – short and in plain words. Rather jump than read? Play now.

The basics

What is Bubenjump?

Bubenjump is a ski jumping game for the web browser, drawn in pixel art. You jump on the 20 hills of the classic Ski Jump International v3 plus new hills that follow the real World Cup season – from Otepää to the Kulm ski-flying hill – and you jump against real people: every day there is one hill with the same wind for everyone, and the best jump in the world wins.

Bubenjump launched in October 2026. Within seven days of the launch players had made more than 200,000 jumps.

Is Bubenjump free?

Yes, completely. No price, no ads, no in-app purchases, no premium version.

Do I need to download anything or create an account?

No. Open bubenjump.xyz and jump. There is no sign-up, no e-mail address and no password. To appear in the world rankings you only choose a nickname and a jumper.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes – in any modern browser on phone, tablet or computer (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Brave). Hold the phone sideways. You can also install it like an app: on an iPhone in Safari tap Share → “Add to Home Screen”, on Android open the Chrome menu → “Install app”. It then starts in full screen and updates itself.

Which languages does Bubenjump speak?

English, German, Polish, Slovenian, Norwegian and Finnish.

Jumping

How do I jump?

  1. Gate: on the start bar choose your gate with ↑ / ↓.
  2. In-run: Space (on a phone: tap the big pad).
  3. Takeoff: Space or ↑ again, exactly at the edge of the table. Too early or too late costs metres.
  4. Flight: → leans you forward (flatter, further), ← straightens you up (safer). When the arms start to wave you are at the limit – correct it.
  5. Landing: just before touchdown ↓ for a telemark (more style points) or Space for a safe parallel landing.

The Jump School in the game (☰ → Help) walks you through it step by step.

How are jumps scored?

Like in real ski jumping. Distance points: 60 for reaching the K-point (120 on ski-flying hills), plus or minus a fixed amount per metre. Three judges give up to 20 points each – for a steady flight, the landing and the landing position; a telemark scores higher than a parallel landing. On top come compensation points for wind and gate: a tailwind or a lower gate earns points, a headwind or a higher gate costs points.

What does the gate change?

A higher gate means more speed and longer jumps. But records only count from the standard gate or lower, and a gate that is too high sends you far past the hill size, where the landing gets very tight. Before every jump the gate card tells you which gate fits.

Why did I fall after a really long jump?

Far beyond the hill size (HS) the slope flattens out and the moment for a clean landing becomes very short. That is ski jumping physics, not bad luck. Take a gate lower – the game suggests one after the fall.

Is the physics random?

No. The physics is deterministic: the same inputs in the same wind always give exactly the same jump, to the centimetre. There is no hidden dice roll. That is why every jump can be simulated again on the server – only that result counts, so records, rankings and duels can’t be faked in the browser – why replays and duel ghosts show exactly what happened, and why the Jump of the Day really is the same for everyone.

Modes and competitions

What can I play?

  • Record Hunt – all hills, as often as you like. Every landed jump counts for the world records.
  • Jump of the Day – one hill a day, three attempts, the same wind for everyone in the world. The best attempt by points counts.
  • Jump of the Week – one ski-flying hill a week, five tries a day, a new wind each try. The longest landed jump wins.
  • World Cup – the Jump of the Day and the Jump of the Week earn World Cup points (see below).
  • Career – seasons against 15 computer jumpers. Finish in the top three and you move up a league.
  • Duels – challenge anyone with one of your jumps.
  • Leagues – your own group with friends: records, tournaments, seasons.
  • Same device – a tournament taking turns on one device, no internet needed.

When is the new Jump of the Day?

At midnight, Berlin time (CET/CEST). Everyone jumps the same hill in the same wind, so the daily ranking compares jumps, not luck.

How does the Bubenjump World Cup work?

The World Cup 2026 runs from 19 October 2026 to 3 January 2027. Every Jump of the Day is a World Cup competition with points for places 1 to 30, as in the real World Cup: 100, 80, 60, 50, 45 and so on down to 1. The Jump of the Week is ski flying and counts double (a win is worth 200). Your best 20 days and best 5 weeks count, the rest are dropped – so you can join at any time. The leader wears the yellow bib, and the top three get the crystal globe at the end. There is also a Nations Cup: per competition the best three jumpers of each country count.

What is a duel?

After a landed jump tap “Challenge” and send the link. Whoever opens it jumps in exactly the same wind from the same gate, with three tries and seven days’ time – your jump flies along as a ghost. Every running duel is also an open challenge that anyone in the game can take on. Next to each opponent you see your record against them, for example “you 3:2”.

Playing with others

Can I play with friends?

Yes. Home → “With friends” → “Start a league”, give it a name, and share the invite link in your group chat. A league has its own records, tournaments over several days and seasons; if you like, a Telegram bot posts records and results to your group.

No friends playing yet – how do I find other jumpers?

Under “Open leagues” you find leagues that anyone can join while there is room. If they are all full, open the next one yourself. Running duels are open challenges too, and on the Discord you meet the rest of the community.

What social features are there?

  • Duels and rivals – challenge anyone with a jump; your record against each rival is kept, and whoever beats you gets a “Rematch”.
  • Congratulate – new world records and yesterday’s winners appear on the home screen; a world record can be congratulated any time on its card, which also shows who already did.
  • Community – in the world rankings: the top scouts (who brought the most new jumpers in) and the liveliest open leagues of the week.
  • Profiles – tap any name to see that jumper’s skill rating, medals, trophies and best jumps to watch.
  • Replays and sharing – every jump can be watched again and shared as a link (“Can you beat it?”).
  • Who’s jumping now – see who is on the hill right now and where.
  • Nations – national records and the Nations Cup: jump for your country.
  • Notifications – optional pushes when someone takes your record, when you made the podium or when your streak is in danger.
  • Discord – world records live, news and other jumpers.

Records, rankings and progress

Which records are there?

Every hill has two world records: the longest jump and the best jump by points. Both only count when landed and from the standard gate or lower. There are also national records per hill, so you can be the best of your country even without the world record. More than 40 nations are in the game, and your jumper wears your country’s suit.

What is the skill rating?

The skill rating shows how good your jumps really are, independent of lucky wind: it is the average of your last 30 jumps, measured against the perfect jump in the same wind. Falls count too. From 10 jumps you appear in the “Top jumpers” ranking.

What else is there to collect?

  • Hill stars – up to three per hill for the quality of your best jump.
  • Streak 🔥 – jump the Jump of the Day every day. A joker covers one missed day per week.
  • Missions and milestones – small goals for every kind of player; the ⓘ next to each explains it.
  • Trophy cabinet – podiums, records and titles, kept even after a record falls.

How do I take my name to another device?

There is no password – your personal link is your key. ☰ → “Profile” → “Show link”, keep the link somewhere safe and open it on the new device. Don’t pass it on: whoever has it jumps as you.

Since the start of the season the hills follow the real ski jumping season: the Kulm ski-flying hill opened together with the World Cup start, and every second Monday a new hill opens that matches the real World Cup calendar. A new hill starts as the Jump of the Day, so everyone jumps it first thing.

New hills open with a little ceremony: your first jump there is your maiden flight, the ribbon is cut, and you learn your jumper number on that hill – the first 100 get the “Opening jumper” trophy. In the Record Hunt you can sort the hills by “Popular” to see where most people jumped this week.

Are the Four Hills, Holmenkollen, Zakopane and Planica in the game?

Yes. All four hills of the Four Hills Tournament are there – Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen – and so are Holmenkollen, Lillehammer, Lahti, Kuopio, Zakopane, Engelberg, Sapporo and the ski-flying hills of Vikersund, Harrachov, Planica and Kulm. Ruka (16 November) and Wisła (30 November) open this season. In Record Hunt you can jump any of them whenever you like.

Community and more

Where can I talk to other players?

On the Bubenjump Discord (link in the game under ☰ → Help): questions, world records live, news. Ideas and bugs can also be sent straight from the game via ☰ → “Send feedback” – the team reads everything, and many changes in the game come from player feedback.

What happens with offensive names?

Names with hate, violence or insults are blocked. If you still see one, open the jumper’s card and tap “Report name”.

Who makes Bubenjump?

Bubenjump is made by Randalaise Games, an independent team, as an unofficial tribute to the classic Ski Jump International v3 (SJ3) by Ville Könönen. Ville Könönen knows Bubenjump and has given it his blessing.

What data does Bubenjump store?

Very little: a random device key, your nickname if you choose one, and your jumps. No e-mail, no real name, no tracking for advertising. Details are in the game under ☰ → “Privacy”.
